HARTFORD, Conn. – Junior
Ashley Sheldon set a school record in the 100-meter hurdles Saturday at the Trinity Invitational with a 14.80, marking the 33rd-fastest time in Division III so far this season. She placed fifth in the event, and the Union College women's outdoor track & field team placed 10th out of 13 teams with six top-10 finishes.
Sheldon went 15.00 in prelims of the 100m hurdles which also broke her own previous school record of 15.05. She also went on to place third in the high jump with a season-best 1.58m leap.
Junior Kat Doran and first-year Kate Nielsen both ran in the 400-meter dash with Doran leading the way with ninth-place finish (1:01.59). Nielsen went 1:03.58 for a personal-best and a 12th-place finish.
Sophomore Kyleigh Record and first-year Kate Monaco raced to top-10 finishes in the 800-meter run. Both tallied season-best marks with Record placing third (2:18.08).
Among five entries in the 1,500-meter run for Union, sophomores Charlotte Knight (5:14.93) and Isla Langsdorf (5:26.66) both earned personal-bests while juniors Ella McCarthy (5:37.17) and Amelia Wagner (5:38.47) notched their fastest times of the season so far. Rounding out the distance events, first-year Eilis McKenna went 12:12.28 for a second-place performance in the steeplechase.
Sophomore Lauryn Johnson threw the javelin 30.82m, earning herself a sixth-place finish. Junior Maggie Buckley also competed in the javelin and posted a 20.09m throw. Junior Epephanie LaBoy registered a 30.31m mark and season-best in her third attempt of the hammer throw to place 23rd.
The Garnet Chargers will compete in their final meet before the Liberty League championships on Friday, April 24 at the RPI Capital District Classic.
