CANTON, N.Y. – The Union College women's golf team got its 2025-26 season started on Saturday afternoon with day one of the St. Lawrence University Fall Invitational, held at the par-72 Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course.
 
Union finished day one in fourth place out of six full teams with a team round of 334, sitting 13 strokes ahead of Suffolk University in fifth place and 19 strokes behind Ithaca College and SUNY Cortland in a tie for third place. New York University sits in first place after a round of 289, 26 strokes ahead of Ithaca and Cortland.
 
Juniors Carinna Anastasio and Iyene Essien tied for the team's low score of the day, with both golfers finishing with nine-over rounds of 81 to sit in a tie for 15th place . Anastasio tied for third in the field with three birdies on the day and was one of 10 players to play the par-threes at even par for the afternoon, going out with a 40 and coming in with a 41. Essien carded a two-over 38 on the front nine and had three pars and three bogies to start the back nine before a pair of double bogies marred her finish.
 
First-year Casey Mack carded a round of 82 in her collegiate debut, sitting one shot back of her teammates in a tie for 19th. The first year matched Essien for the team's low front nine of the day with a 38 thanks to five pars, three bogies and one birdie, and posted a 44 on the back nine.
 
Sophomores Emma Doherty and Claire Giletta sit in 26th and 28th place, respectively, after day one after rounds of 90 and 91. Playing as individuals, first-year NaNa Simpson shot a 92 in her collegiate debut and junior Ella Golas carded a 95.
 
Union will be back in action for day two of the SLU Fall Invitational tomorrow morning.
