CANTON, N.Y. – The Union College women's golf team matched the program single-round record with a 319 on the second and final day of the St. Lawrence University Fall Invitational, held on Sunday at the par-72 Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course.
 
Union posted the third-lowest round of the day with its round of 319, which matched the program record first set on the same course in 2021. Following on yesterday's 334, the Garnet Chargers' weekend score of 653 is the second-lowest two-day score ever for the program, nine strokes off the record also set in 2021 in Canton.
 
As a team, Union finished fourth out of six full teams on the weekend, 18 shots back of SUNY Cortland in third place. New York University took top honors with a two-day score of 574, a full 53 shots ahead of runner-up Ithaca College (627).
 
Junior Iyene Essien was Union's top finisher on the weekend, carding a 76 on Sunday to finish the two-day event in a tie for 15th place at 157. Essien carded two birdies as part of an even-par 36 on the back nine to start the day, then came in with a 40 to finish off her round.
 
First-year Casey Mack finished off a strong opening weekend with a 77 on Sunday, moving her two spots up the leaderboard into 17th place with a two-day score of 159. She had a very steady round on Sunday, starting out with seven pars and two bogies over the first nine holes before coming in with five more pars as a part of a back-nine 39. The newcomer was one of only 11 players to finish the par-fives under par for the weekend, playing the eight longest holes on the course at one-under thanks to two birdies, five pars and one bogey.
 
Junior Carinna Anastasio finished one stroke outside the top-20, shooting rounds of 81 and 82 to finish at 163. The junior ranked sixth in the field with a team-leading five birdies over the 36 holes and also was one of only four players to shoot even par on the par-threes. Both of her birdies on Sunday came on par-threes, and she finished the weekend with three birdies and three pars on the eight shortest holes of the course.
 
Sophomore Claire Giletta shaved seven strokes off yesterday's round with an 84 on Sunday to move up into 26th place with a 175. She was joined by classmate Emma Doherty, who shot an 88 on day two to end the weekend in 28th place at 178.
 
Playing as individuals, junior Ella Golas shot a 91 on Sunday to finish the weekend at 186, while first-year NaNa Simpson ended the two-day event at 193.
 
Union will take next weekend off before returning to the course on September 19-20 for the annual Union Fall Invitational, held at Mohawk Golf Club.
