Hamilton and Vassar to Meet for Liberty League Women's Tennis Championship
Rochester, New York (October 9, 2004) - Top-seeded Vassar College and third-seeded Hamilton College will meet for the Liberty League women's tennis championship on Sunday, October 10, at the University of Rochester.
Second-seeded Skidmore will play fourth-seeded William Smith for third place. The fifth-place match pairs the tournament's sixth seed - host Rochester - against fifth-seeded St. Lawrence. Six-seeded Rensselaer and eight-seeded Union place for seventh place.
The championship match and third place matches will be played at 9 am. The seventh and fifth place matches will follow at 11:30 am. Rochester will use its outdoor Peter Lyman Tennis Center as well as the Robert Goergen Athletic Center indoor courts to run the events concurrently.
The Liberty League draw held in three of the four quarterfinal matches. Vassar defeated Union, 5-0, Skidmore defeated Rochester, 5-1, Hamilton defeated RPI, 5-0, and William Smith defeated St. Lawrence, 5-3.
In the semifinals, Vassar defeated William Smith, 5-0, and Hamilton defeated Skidmore, 5-3. St. Lawrence beat Union, 5-0, in its half of the consolation bracket and Rochester upended RPI, 5-1.
With rain threatening throughout the day, all matches were played to decision (winner must earn five points) rather than to conclusion (all matches must finish).
