SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Union College women's tennis team battled hard on the first two days of the ITA Northeast Regional Championships, held on Thursday and Friday at Skidmore College's McCaffrey-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center.
Union started off action on Thursday evening with doubles play in both the main and "B" draws.
First-year
Loden Bradstreet and
Maddy Alecia drew a tough opening match against top-seeded Sophia Cunningham and Helena Lynn of Saint Francis University, falling by an 8-1 score. Both Union entries dropped 8-6 matches in their "B" draw openers, as senior
Scarlet Carrara and sophomore
Jenny Park came up short to Nora Pencek and Hannah Rowan of the University of Scranton while sophomore
Caroline Fitzsimmons and first-year
Violet Tran met the same fate against St. Lawrence University's Ellie Fritz and Addison Jones.
Bradstreet and classmate
Ava Boncordo represented Union in the singles main draw on Friday. Boncordo earned a first-round win by knocking off Pratt Institute's Beatrice Crespo with a pair of 6-3 sets before falling to Noelle Faber of New York University in the round of 32, 7-5, 6-3. Bradstreet came a supertiebreaker away from joining her teammate in the second round, losing a 6-3, 3-6, (13-11) match to The College of New Jersey's Shruti Mannan in her opener.
This weekend's action marks the end of Union's fall season, with the Garnet Chargers taking some time off before returning for a full spring schedule of action beginning in February.
