SCHENECTADY, NY – The Hamilton College women's tennis team outlasted Union College, 6-3, in Liberty League action at both the outdoor courts at Union and the indoor facility at the Schenectady Racquet & Fitness Club Wednesday afternoon. When rain threatened the match at the completion of doubles, the two teams finished the match at the local indoor facility.
The Dutchwomen (0-4, 0-2 Liberty League) were down 2-1 after doubles as Union's Jennie Werts (New York, NY/ Fieldston School) and Jessica Meola (Hartsdale, NY/ Ardsley) defeated Kara Powers (Manchester, MA/ Manchester Essex Regional) and Marni Powers (Manchester, MA/ Manchester Essex Regional), 8-6, at No. 1 doubles.
Hamilton (1-0, 1-0 Liberty League) took No. 2 doubles as Laura Brantley (Chattanooga, TN/ Hotchkiss School (CT)) and Emily Poe (McLean, VA. Langley) defeated Brittany Miller (Scituate, MA/Scituate) and Kelly Fitzpatrick (Poughkeepsie, NY/ Arlington), 8-3. Sarah Sallan (Cambridge, MA/ Winsor School) and Lindsay Walsh (Berwyn, PA/ Conestoga) defeated Union's Kathleen Rucci (Schenectady, NY/ Guilderland) and Marla Feldman (Woodcliff Lake, NJ/ Pascack Hills), 8-6, at No. 3 doubles.
Miller was a winner at No. 2 singles for the Dutchwomen, defeating Marni Powers, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1. Also winning for Union was Feldman, who came back to defeat Julia Houlden (Topsfield, MA/ Masconomet), 0-6, 7-5, 6-0.
Hamilton's Brantley outlasted Rucci in a three-set match, 7-6 (7-4), 1-6, 6-3, in which the first game of the third set extended through 12 deuces before Brantley clinched the game.
Union is back in action on Saturday when the Dutchwomen host Skidmore for a Liberty League dual match at 2 p.m. Hamilton hosts New York University on Saturday at noon.
