SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The SUNY New Paltz women's tennis team swept the doubles matchups en route to a 7-2 victory at Union College Saturday afternoon. Junior Dana Lim led the Hawks with victories at both No. 1 singles and doubles, teaming up with Eri Yamakawa for an 8-2 doubles victory.
Hallie Mabrey (Needham, Mass.) forced Lim to a tiebreak in the first set, but the New Paltz junior won the match, 7-6, 6-2.
Union's
Roni Brumberger (Scarsdale, N.Y.) made quick work of Yamakawa at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-4, and
Kathleen Rucci (Schenectady, N.Y.) defeated Lyndsey Lovinger in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, to account for the Dutchwomen's two wins on the day.
Union's
Lyndsay Wehrum (Little Falls, N.Y.) took Kerri Serkes
to three sets, but fell, 3-6, 6-4, 10-4. New Paltz's Stephanie Schara defeated
Libby Johnson (Boxborough, Mass.), 6-1, 6-2, at No. 5 singles, and Alyssa Zulli defeated
Natalie Ullman (Highland, Md.), 6-3, 6-2, to round out New Paltz's singles victories.
Serkes and Schara defeated Rucci and Brumberger, 8-5, at No. 2 doubles, while Lovinger and Zulli defeated Wehrum and Johnson at No. 3 doubles, 8-4.
Union is back in action at home on April 20 against St. Lawrence.
