CANTON, NY – The Union College women's tennis team lost to William Smith, 9-0, in the first match of the Liberty League Championship hosted by St. Lawrence. Both senior Hallie Mabrey and sophomore Liz Lehman forced a third set in their matches, but couldn't overcome their opponents for the victory.

 

In the first singles slot, Mabrey defeated Amanda Slack, 7-5, in the first set, but lost the second, 6-4. The third set went long with Slacks winning, 10-6.

 

In the sixth spot, Lehman rebounded after losing to Hallsey Leighton, 6-2, with a 6-3 win in the second set. Leighton bested Lehman 10-8 in the deciding duel.

Sixth-seeded Union will play fifth-seeded RPI at 5 p.m. in the fifth place match.
