SCHENECTADY, NY – Sophomore goaltender
Keith Kinkaid became the second Union men's ice hockey student-athlete to earn All-American honors in the Division I era. Kinkaid was named a 2011 First Team Reebok All-American by the American Hockey Coaches Association on Friday. Kinkaid joins goaltender Trevor Koenig, who earned First Team All-American honors in 1997.
Kinkaid, a native of Farmingville, NY, finished the year with a record of 25-10-3, compiling a save percentage of .920 and a school-record goals-against average of 1.99, which was fourth best in the nation.
The sophomore was even more impressive in 22 league contests, putting up a record of 17-3-2 with a .926 save percentage and a conference-leading 1.90 goals against average. He allowed two goals or less in 15 league contests and 24 contests overall, with three shutouts.
Kinkaid earned the Ken Dryden Award as ECAC Hockey's Goaltender of the Year, becoming the first Union goaltender to win the award since Trevor Koenig in 1997. He was named ECAC Hockey's Goaltender of the Week three times this season.
Kinkaid was one of six sophomores honored among the nation's top 24 college hockey players announced as All-Americans at the NCAA Men's Division Frozen Four in St. Paul, MN.
