Dutchmen dominate RPI 143.50-97.50

TROY, N.Y.
- The Union College men's swimming and diving teams defeated rival RPI Friday with a dominating score of 143.50-97.50. The Dutchmen are now 2-3 on the season with a 3rd place finish at the Liberty League Championships.

Several Dutchmen earned first-place finishes in the meet, including Matt Wahl. Wahl took the 100 yard free with a time of 49.36. The junior also claimed second-place in the 50 yard free with 22.62.

Sophomore Zach Wahl claimed two first-place finishes against the Engineers, taking the 200 yard free with a time of 1:47.43. He also clocked in at 52.73 to win the 100 yard fly. Fellow sophomore Nicholas Boncek followed him with 53.35 to earn second-place.

Winning both his events for the third consecutive week, senior Ian Drillinger took the one meter board with a score of 313.50 and the three meter board with 325.35.

Senior Michael Mooney earned a win in the 100 yard back with a time of 54.46. Not far behind was freshman Andrew Welch, earning second with a time of 54.93. Welch, along with senior Alex Boyd, Boncek, and Zach Wahl, was also a part of the winning squad that took the 200 yard medley relay with 1:40.30.

Boyd took a first-place win of his own, swimming a time of 1:01.99 in the 100 yard breast. Senior David Sorensen trailed him with a time of 1:02.81 for second place. Earning a first and second-place win was Adam Herzog. The sophomore clocked in at 4:53.95 to win the 500 yard free, while swimming a time of 16:46.07 in the 1650 yard free.

The Dutchmen ended the meet with a first-place win in the 200 yard free relay. The squad of Matt Wahl, Mooney, sophomore Tim Cameron and senior Billy Breitwiser swam a collective time of 1:30.59.

Union is back in action against Middlebury College on January 21st at 2:00 p.m. in Vermont.
