Dutchmen defeat Hamilton 180-114

RESULTS

SCHENECTADY, N.Y.
- The Union College men's swimming and diving teams topped Hamilton College 180-114 on Saturday at the Alumni Gym Pool. Five Dutchmen earned first-place finishes, while seven swimmers earned second-place finishes.

Freshman Andrew Welch earned his first ever collegiate win when he swam in at 54.44 seconds in the 100-yard back. The rookie also earned a second-place finish in the 200-yard back with a time of 1:59.60.

Winning both of his events for the second meet in a row, Adam Herzog had a fantastic day for the Dutchmen. The sophomore won the 500-yard free for the third consecutive week with a time of 4:56.45. Taking the 1000-yard free for the second week in a row, Herzog clocked in at 10:08.38.

For the fifth straight week, Ian Drillinger won both of his events. The senior broke Union College records by scoring a 323.25 on the one-meter board and 378.45 on the three-meter board.

Zach Wahl and Alex Boyd each won two events, as well. Wahl claimed the 200-yard fly and the 100-yard fly with times of 1:58.45 and 52.55 seconds, respectively. It was the third week in a row the sophomore took first in the 100-yard fly. Wahl also took second-place in the 100-yard free with a time of 48.77 seconds. Boyd earned first-place in the 100-yard breast with a time of 1:02.09 and the 200-yard breast with 2:16.57.

Junior David Sorensen earned two second-place finishes during the non-conference meet. Close behind Boyd in the 100-yard breast and the 200-yard breast, he swam in at 1:03.05 and 2:19.86, respectively. Fellow junior Matt Wahl also placed in the top-three of two of his events. Wahl took second in the 200-yard fly with a time of 1:59.99, while swimming a 5:02.95 in the 500-yard free. Senior Billy Breitweiser swam ahead of Wahl with a time of 4:59.16 for second-place. He also took second in the 200-yard free, swimming in at 1:48.37.

Other highlights for the Dutchmen include a second-place finish for both senior Michael Mooney (100-yard back, 55.14 seconds) and Nicholas Boncek (100-yard fly, 53.16 seconds).

The squad of Welch, Boyd, and the Wahl brothers swam a collective time of 1:39.04, giving Union a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay.

The Dutchmen are back in action on Saturday, February 4th, at 2 p.m. when they take on Ithaca College.
