Dutchmen defeat Springfield and fall to Hartwick

SCHENECTADY, N.Y.
- The Union College men's swimming and diving teams defeated Springfield College 145-98 and fell to Hartwick College 160-83 Saturday at the Alumni Pool Gym. The Dutchmen are now 1-4 this season.

The Dutchmen opened the meet with a second place finish in the 400 yard medley relay. Senior Michael Mooney, senior Alex Boyd, sophomore Zach Wahl and junior Matt Wahl swam a collective time of 3:38.38.

Zach Wahl went on to earn a first place finish in the 200 yard fly, swimming a time of 1:58.81. Matt Wahl was close behind, taking third with a time of 2:01.21 while sophomore Nicholas Boncek took fourth with 2:01.29.

Senior Ian Drillinger won both of his events for the second consecutive week, taking the one meter board with a score of 268.45 and the three meter board with a score of 309.70.

Placing in the top three in two of his events, Adam Herzog placed second in the 500 yard free with a time of 4:55.13. The sophomore took third place in the 1,000 yard free out of 12 swimmers, clocking in at 10:02.26. Also earning a third place finish was David Sorensen. The junior swam a time of 2:03.79 in the 200 yard IM.

Freshman Andrew Welch earned a second place finish, swimming a 2:01.57 in the 200 yard back. Mooney trailed him for third with a time of 2:01.69. Boyd also took third place in the 200 yard breast, earning a time of 2:20.10.

The Dutchmen are back in action at rival RPI on January 13th at 6 p.m.
