Samantha Muratori went out a winner.
Playing the final home match of her four-year career, Union's lone senior won in straight sets to help lead the Dutchwomen to an 8-1 win over Bard in the last Liberty League tune-up before this weekend's league tournament. With the win, Union improved to 8-4 overall and evened its league record at 2-2. Bard fell to 7-6 overall, 0-4 in league play.
Muratori defeated Jenny Chenn, 6-1, 6-0 as Union recorded five straight set victories in singles play. The match was decided at 8-0 when the No. 3 singles flight turned into a marathan affair. Bard's Oguljemal Yaryyeva eventually prevailed in a super tie-breaker to edge
Margaret Oppenheim, 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, (10-2) in a defensive battle that concluded just before dusk.
Union captured all three double points, dropping just two games total.
Mark Buddle's squad travels to Canton, N.Y. this Saturday (April 26) to open Liberty League Tournament action.
