CANTON, N.Y. -- Union College women's tennis season came to an end Saturday with a 6-0 loss to St. Lawrence at the Liberty League Tournament Quarterfinals at the Newell Field House.
Elkie Vandenbeemt and Anna Young completed their singles matches simultaneously to clinch the match for the Saints, who swept the doubles competition. The Liberty League format calls for matches to be halted once the winning point is recorded.
Senior
Samantha Muratori made her final appearance for the "U", as her singles match was one of three that went uncompleted. Despite a 2-15 start as a freshman, Muratori won 18 of 23 singles matches over her last three seasons to finish .500 overall at 20-20.
Union finished its 2013-14 campaign with an 8-5 overall record. The future looks bright for Coach Mark Buddle's squad, as
Natalia Pronchick,
Mina Hsia and
Margaret Oppenheim spent their rookie seasons playing at the top three singles positions respectively.
