SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Union women's tennis team embarked on its 2015-16 campaign with a 9-0 victory over Bard in Liberty League play Saturday afternoon. The win also marked the successful debut for first-year head coach Brian Bowman.
Union won all six singles matches in straight sets, with Natalia Pronchick leading the way at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Lily Schwartz. Pronchick won all 20 games she played on the day, also winning at No. 1 doubles, 8-0. Senior Hayley Lough picked up where she left off last season, capturing her sixth-straight win with a 6-3, 6-0 decision over Amelia Tiermann at No. 2 singles.
A pair of rookies were their collegiate matches – Julianne Loree at No. 3 singles and Paige Webster at No. 4 singles. Both players claimed doubles wins to go 2-0 on the day. Emily Newman was also a double-winner, registering wins at No. 6 singles and No. 2 doubles.
