SCHENECTADY, NY - For the first time since the 2012-13 season, the Union College men's swimming and diving team defeated Middlebury College in a head-to-head meet.
The Dutchmen hosted the Panthers Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium in Schenectady, NY. Much like the day before, the meet was tight but, this time it was Union coming on top with a final score of 128-113 in the team competition.
The Dutchmen got off to a fast start winning the first seven competitions as
Jorge Tanur,
Brendan McClure,
Dan Steinmetz,
John Enquist and
Sam Hoyt all took home individual victories.
Enquist ran away from the field in the 200 yd IM as his time of 1:58.60 was four seconds better than the next closest competitor.
Hoyt picked up another win on the diving board in the 3m competition with a final score of 351.52.
Matthew Mintz finished right behind him with a score of 336.00.
Steinmetz took the 50 yd freestyle with a time of 22.39 which was .55 seconds ahead of the second place swimmer.
McClure edged out Middlebury's Michael McGean in the 200 yd freestyle finishing with a final time of 1:47.48 seconds.
Tanur was the first Dutchman to pick up an individual win this afternoon as he grabbed the 1000 yd freestyle race by just under a second. His final time was 10:08.65.
Union is back in the pool on Jan. 21 when it travels to Hamilton College for a 2:00 p.m. meet.
