ROCHESTER, N.Y.—First-year
Natalia Pezzuco battled to a three-set win at No. 1 singles to clinch the Union College women's tennis team's first win of the season, as the Dutchwomen secured a 5-4 victory against RIT on Sunday. Union goes to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in Liberty League play, while the Tigers move to 4-5 overall and 0-4 in conference.
The Dutchwomen jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play. Pezzuco teamed with
Paige Webster for an 8-3 win at No. 1, and
Alex Greenberg and
Julianne Loree registered an 8-2 win at No. 2.
Loree put Union in front 3-1 with her second win of the day, cruising to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2. The Tigers cut the deficit to 3-2 with a win at No. 3, but
Alex Greenberg extended the advantage to 4-2 with a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 4. Pezzuco notched the clinching point, topping Amelia Ying 6-0, 2-6, 6-4 at No. 1.
The Dutchwomen travel to Hilton Head, S.C. March 19-21 for four matches. Union opens its spring trip March 19 against Frostburg State.
