ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON--The Union College women's tennis team bounced back from a loss to New Paltz, rolling to an 8-1 Liberty League win against Bard on Saturday evening at the Bard tennis courts.
The Dutchwomen (6-6, 2-2 Liberty League) opened the day at New Paltz (10-6).
Natalia Pezzuco and
Paige Webster put Union on the board at No. 1 doubles, defeating New Paltz's top pair of Carol Tyson and Emi Lewis 8-3, but the Hawks won at No. 2 and 3 to take a 2-1 lead.
New Paltz pulled away in singles, claiming five of six.
Natalia Pronchick added the Dutchwomen's second victory of the match, cruising to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2.
Union rebounded in its second match of the day against the Raptors (7-7. 0-2 Liberty), jumping out to a 3-0 lead in doubles. Pezzuco and Webster earned their second win top-flight win of the day with an 8-1 victory. Pronchick and
Alex Greenberg added an 8-0 win at No. 2 and
Rebecca Koerwer and
Allison Remmell combined for their first career wins, edging Bella Martinez and Jenny Chen, 8-6, at No. 3.
Pronchick and Webster each improved to 3-1 on the day with wins at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.
Madeleine Hamparian contributed a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 3 and
Lisa Hladik was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at No. 4. Remmell also registered her first career singles win, beating Chen 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 for the 8-1 final.
The Dutchwomen return to the court tomorrow, hosting Geneseo at 2 p.m.
