Dutchwomen defeat Oneonta 8-1

SCHENECTADY, NY – The Union College women's tennis team won all but one match in an 8-1 dual win against SUNY Oneonta on Wednesday evening.

Natalia Pezzuco continued her winning ways, extending her winning streak to seven matches at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win. At No. 1 doubles, Pezzuco and Megan Brown have now won six-straight after defeating Oneonta 8-1. Brown also won her No. 2 singles match, 6-1, 6-1.

Julianne Loree and Alissa Sangiuolo were also undefeated on the day, as Loree won her No. 3 singles match and Sangiuolo won her No. 4 singles match, before the two team up to win the No. 2 doubles match.

Cath Xing won her second collegiate No. 6 singles match with a 7-5, 6-2 victory.

At No. 3 doubles, Alex Greenberg and Allison Remmell paired up to win 8-6.

Union returns to Liberty League action on Friday hosting Skidmore for a dual slated to begin at 5 p.m. (ET).

Maddie Hamparian: 5' 3"; Sophomore; I chose Union primarily for its outstanding academic reputation. When visiting the college, I sat in on an upper level Political Science course and decided after that this was the school for me. In addition, Union's alumni connection and extracurricular opportunities made my choice even easier.

Alex Greenberg: 5' 3"; Junior; I chose Union because of its Minerva community and small teacher to student ratio. I was also attracted to the clubs and research opportunities with professors.

Most of the D1 schools had vigorous tennis programs that would have made it very difficult for me to do well in my engineering class. But most of the small, D3 schools were strictly liberal arts and did not offer engineering classes. I chose Union because it allowed me to everything that I enjoyed.

Allison Remmell: 5' 4"; Sophomore; I chose to attend Union because of its strong academic reputation, as well as the overall quality of the school. I felt so welcomed by all of the students at Union College, and immediately knew that I wanted to be a part of this incredible community.

Megan Brown: 5' 9"; First Year; I chose to attend Union because it was a perfect combination of everything I was looking for in a college education: great academics, countless opportunities for students with all areas of interests and a continuation of my passion for tennis. Each time I visited, the faculty and students were so welcoming – I immediately felt like I belonged.

Alissa Sangiuolo: 5' 2"; First Year; I chose to attend Union because unlike any other school I visited, Union had an overwhelming sense of a tight-knit community that I wanted to be a part of. Additionally, the draw of being recruited to play tennis definitely influenced my decision to attend Union College, as I love not only the sport but also being a part of a group. I also loved the campus and could not find a school that could compare to what Union had to offer in terms of academics.
