No. 17 Thoroughbreds defeat Dutchwomen

SCHENECTADY, NY – The Union College women's tennis team fell in Liberty League action to No. 17 Skidmore, 9-0, on Friday night.

The nationally ranked Thoroughbreds won all but one set on the day against Union, as Megan Brown took her No. 2 singles match to a super tie breaker. After losing the first set, Brown battled back to win the second set 6-4. Unfortunately, Skidmore took the super tiebreaker 10-5.

Brown and doubles partner Natalia Pezzuco put up a tough fight in the No. 1 doubles match, but ultimately lost 8-5.

I chose Union primarily for its outstanding academic reputation. When visiting the college, I sat in on an upper level Political Science course and decided after that this was the school for me. In addition, Union's alumni connection and extracurricular opportunities made my choice even easier.

I chose Union because of its Minerva community and small teacher to student ratio. I was also attracted to the clubs and research opportunities with professors.

I chose to attend Union because of its beautiful campus and focused academics. I was also intrigued by the trimester system and the ability to really dive into fewer classes per term compared to semester schools. Lastly, the abroad programs offered (specifically London) had caught my attention from the beginning, and I was able to pursue off-campus studies in London my junior spring.

During the college process, my senior year of high school, I was looking for a school that would allow me to do two things: be an engineer and be a tennis player. Most of the D1 schools had vigorous tennis programs that would have made it very difficult for me to do well in my engineering class. But most of the small, D3 schools were strictly liberal arts and did not offer engineering classes. I chose Union because it allowed me to everything that I enjoyed.

I chose to attend Union because it was a perfect combination of everything I was looking for in a college education: great academics, countless opportunities for students with all areas of interests and a continuation of my passion for tennis. Each time I visited, the faculty and students were so welcoming – I immediately felt like I belonged.

I chose to attend Union because unlike any other school I visited, Union had an overwhelming sense of a tight-knit community that I wanted to be a part of. Additionally, the draw of being recruited to play tennis definitely influenced my decision to attend Union College, as I love not only the sport but also being a part of a group. I also loved the campus and could not find a school that could compare to what Union had to offer in terms of academics.
