CLINTON, N.Y. – The Union College women's tennis team competed in its final event of the fall season this weekend at the Hamilton College Invitational, held on Saturday and Sunday.
 
The event featured teams from Hamilton, Ithaca College and the University of Rochester, with squads playing eight-game pro sets in singles play as well as regulation doubles matches.
 
Sophomore Dana D'Onofrio and freshman Monet Riseborough had a good weekend to lead the Dutchwomen, with the tandem posting a 2-0 doubles record together and a 1-1 singles mark individually. Junior Cathy Xing also had three wins on the weekend, winning both singles matches and splitting two doubles matches.
 
In singles play, Union won four of its nine singles matches against Hamilton. Junior Samantha Siegel earned an 8-2 win in her first action of the fall, while Xing also earned an 8-2 win. In addition, D'Onofrio picked up an 8-5 victory and Riseborough posted a 6-4 victory.
 
Union swept all five doubles matches against Ithaca in the team's best showing of the weekend. D'Onofrio and Riseborough excelled again with an 8-0 victory, while Siegel and freshman Sophie Brown also put up a bagel in a 6-0 win.  A trio of other matches finished 8-5 in favor of the Dutchwomen as well, with victorious tandems including senior Tal Pezzuco and freshman Marilena Karadimou, freshmen Hallie Katzman and Rayna Katzman, and Xing and senior Allison Remmell.
 
The Dutchwomen played four doubles matches against Rochester, with the lone Union win coming from D'Onofrio and Riseborough with an 8-4 victory. Union also won only two of nine singles matches against the Yellow Jackets, with Karadimou (8-7 (7-1)) and Xing (6-4) earning the two victories.
 
Union will take the remainder of the fall and winter trimesters off from competition before returning to action in March. The Dutchwomen are slated to start 2020 on March 7 at St. Lawrence University.
