CANTON, N.Y. – The Union College women's tennis team went on to the road for the first time this season over the weekend, taking part in the Canton Classic at St. Lawrence University on Saturday and Sunday.
The tournament was played in a Fed Cup format, with two players from each team paired off to play a doubles match and two singles matches in a best-of-three contest.
Senior
Tal Pezzuco and freshman
Marilena Karadimou started the weekend by winning their first-round "A" flight match 3-0 against SUNY Geneseo. After teaming for an 8-3 doubles win, Pezzuco outlasted her opponent 8-6 in singles play while Karadimou added an 8-1 victory. After falling 2-1 to a Rochester Institute of Technology pair in the semifinals, the Union duo earned a third-place finish with a 3-0 win over another RIT twosome.

Megan Brown and freshman
Sophie Brown fell to RIT by a 2-1 score in their first-round "A" flight match, but the pair rebounded nicely to take fifth-place after 3-0 wins over Geneseo and St. Lawrence.

Dana D'Onofrio also advanced out of the first round in "B" flight action, as the pair won their doubles match 8-3 and then D'Onofrio earned an 8-2 singles win over SUNY Geneseo.
Union will head to Geneva next weekend for the ITA Northeast Regional Championships, beginning on Saturday.
