POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Union men's cross country team secured a third-place finish to start the 2021 season at the Vassar Season Starter, held Wednesday evening at Vassar Farm.
Union placed third out of the four teams in the 4k race with 67 points, 11 points shy of second-place New Paltz. Seven Union runners placed in the top-25 in the 50-runner field.
Leading the way for the Dutchmen was sophomore Ben Trantanella, who finished in 11th place, less than a second off of eighth place. Sophomore Mark D'Alessandro finished in 12th place with a time of 13:33.7. Rounding out the top-20 finishers was first-year Ben Neff and sophomore Charlie Alekson, who finished in 13:55.3 and 13:56.0, respectively.
Senior Phil Facey ran to a 22nd place finish with a time of 14:12.8 with junior Ian Spoor right behind with a time of 14:13.2. Junior Ronan Coughlin rounded out the top-25 with a time of 14:15.9.
Union returns to action on Saturday, September 11 when they travel to Loudonville, N.Y. for the Siena College Invitational.
