Complete Day One Results
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women's tennis team kicked off the 2021-22 fall season on Saturday with day one of the Union Invitational, held at the Union Tennis Courts.

In the "A" singles bracket, sophomore
Gracie Nicol advanced to the semifinals with a 7-5, 4-6, (10-5) win over Oneonta's Olivia Fraser, but she came up just short in a supertiebreaker to Maddie DeNuccie of Holy Cross, falling by a 7-6 (7-2), 2-6, (10-6) score. Junior
Marilena Karadimou also had one win on the day, following up an opening round loss with a 8-4 victory over Oneonta's Madeline Carswell in the back draw.

Sophie Brown advanced to the finals of the "B" Singles bracket, starting her day with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Oneonta's Brianna Shaw and then coming back to knock off Holy Cross' Courtney Kallas by a 4-6, 6-3, (10-6) score.

First-year
Gabby Gatto earned one victory for Union in the "C" Singles bracket, starting her day with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Missy Caiola of Holy Cross before suffering a 1-6, 6-4, (10-6) defeat in the semifinal round.

Union won three of its four matches in the "D" Singles bracket, led by first-year
Paige Tromblee. Tromblee advanced to the finals with a pair of victories, starting with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Oneonta's Amelia Wilson and then coming from behind to best Rensselaer's Natalie Cipriano, 4-6, 6-0, (10-4). Sophomore
Kate Hirnak also earned a spot in the fifth-place match with an 8-0 backdraw win over Oneonta's Sarah Sampson.

One Union doubles team advanced on day one as well, with the tandem of Karadimou and Nicol taking out Oneonta's Fraser and Julia Holtermann by an 8-2 score to reach Sunday's semifinals.
