Final Results
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women's tennis team closed out the season-opening Union Invitational with several good performances on day two at the Union Tennis Courts.
Junior
Sophie Brown posted two wins yesterday to reach the finals of the "B" singles bracket, but she could not take home the title on Sunday after falling 6-1, 6-0 to RPI's Rani Jones. First-year
Paige Tromblee also reached the finals of the "D" singles bracket, but she dropped an 6-3, 6-1 match to Holy Cross' Caroline Fredey.
After reaching the semifinals yesterday, sophomore
Gracie Nicol took third place in the "A" singles bracket by posting an 8-3 win over Ahana Nagarkatti of Holy Cross. First-year
Gabby Gatto also place third in the "C" singles bracket, as she knocked off Oneonta's Julia Holtermann by an 8-2 score on Sunday after a pair of wins yesterday.
Three other Dutchwomen posted backdraw singles wins on Sunday, with senior
Dana D'Onofrio and first-year
Lichuan Xiong winning seventh-place matches at the "B" and "C" flights, respectively, while sophomore
Kate Hirnak took fifth place in the "D" singles bracket with an 8-1 win over Holy Cross' Meg O'Melveny.
Nicol and junior
Marilena Karadimou also took third place in the "A" doubles bracket, with the pair defeating Hanna Beck and Lauren Chilton of Holy Cross by an 8-6 score in the third-place matchup.
Next up for the Dutchwomen is the ITA Northeast Regionals, scheduled for September 18-20 at William Smith College.
