Box Score 2 Final Results
GENEVA, N.Y. – The Union College women's tennis team started its 2022-23 season with a solid showing at the Mary Hosking Invitational, held on Saturday and Sunday at William Smith College's HWS Tennis Center.
Seven of Union's eight singles entries won at least one match over the two days, while all four doubles entries came away with at least one victory on the weekend.
The highlight of the weekend was the play of senior
Marilena Karadimou and junior
Gracie Nicol, who won four straight matches to take the "A" Doubles title. The pair started their run with a win over Alex Galle and Kylie Sieler of SUNY Geneseo on Saturday, followed by an 8-4 win over Isabelle Goings-Perrot and Julia Pida of William Smith later that day. The pair came back from a 0-3 deficit on Sunday to outlast St. Lawrence University's Catherine Gamble and Molly Jesperson, 8-7 (7-5) to reach the finals, where they knocked off Josephine Libby and Jasmin Toor of the University of Rochester by an 8-5 score.
Union's top singles result of the weekend came from sophomore
Gabby Gatto, who reached the finals of the "B" Singles bracket. She started the weekend with two wins on Saturday, sweeping Julienne Ho of RIT, 8-0, and besting Kayla Shenk of Ithaca College, 8-4. She came back on Sunday to defeat Toor (UR) by an 8-3 score to reach the finals, where she came up short to Jesperson (SLU), 8-5.
Karadimou and Nicol both earned one win apiece in the "A" Singles bracket on Saturday. Karadimou defeated Galle for a second time by an 8-1 score before falling to eventual champ Libby (UR), 8-3. Nicol took out Seiler of Geneseo for a second time, 8-1, before dropping an 8-4 match to SLU's Gamble in the quarterfinals.

Hallie Katzman and sophomore
Paige Tromblee picked up victories in "C" Singles action, with Tromblee outlasting RIT's Devon Mills in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (7-1), and Katzman defeating Geneseo's Katherine Kujawa by an 8-5 score. Senior
Rayna Katzman also earned a win for Union in the "D" Singles bracket, posting an 8-2 first-round win over Charlotte Sanford of William Smith.
In "B" Doubles action, Gatto and junior
Kate Hirnak swept Hannah Chin and Miriana Kelly of Rochester, 8-0, in the first round before dropping an 8-5 match to SLU's Gabriella Dadoly and Elena Styliades in the second round.
Union will return home to host the annual Union Invitational on Saturday and Sunday beginning at 9 a.m. at the Union Tennis Courts.
