Box Score 2 SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Union College women's tennis team faced a challenging weekend of competition at the Thoroughbred Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, competing against several quality programs at Skidmore College's McCaffrey-Wagnan Tennis and Wellness Center.
On Saturday, Union played a full slate of eight singles matches against Skidmore, with senior
Gracie Nicol leading the way for Union with an 8-6 victory at second singles against Katherine Almquist. Sophomore
Skylar Semon also competed hard against Katie Wong, coming up just short in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (7-3).
The team also earned a pair of victories against Hamilton, with first-year
Luisa Arizpe-Sierra defeating Sam Rainero, 8-6, and junior
Gabby Gatto outlasting Claire Cutler by the same score. Sophomore
Claire Langille nearly added to the win total, but fell in a tiebreaker to Kate Solowey, 8-7 (7-2).
Union played all doubles action on Sunday's second day of competition, with the pair of Nicol and Arizpe-Sierra leading the charge with an 8-2 win over Hamilton's Priyanka Challapalli and Hannah Walpole.
Union will begin its dual match season on Wednesday, when the team heads to Bard College for a Liberty League matchup beginning at 4 p.m.
