Cat Dacey reset her own program record in the 1500 and joined seniors
Allison Malatesta,
Alayna Gibson, and classmate
Caroline Kelly to break the 4x800 relay record on day two of the AARTFC Regionals to finish the 2023-24 season in a big way Thursday.
Dacey began the final day of competition with her strong individual performance, breaking her 4:45.19 1500-meter record she set at Liberty League Championships a year ago by over three seconds. Dacey moved up through the 14-runner pack through each of her four splits, crossing the line in sixth in 4:41.92 to pick up three points.
In Union's final event of the two-day Championships, Malatesta, Gibson, Kelly, and Dacey smashed Union's three-year-old 9:43.47 4x800 record, which Malatesta and Gibson were a part of at Regionals in 2021, by over 12 seconds, finishing in third in 9:29.22 to grab Union's top finish at the meet.
Junior
Gabi Baker came just shy of her personal best in the 400, crossing the finish line in 59.06 seconds, while senior
Caroline Stanton came just over a second shy of her personal benchmark in the 400-meter hurdles with her 1:07.77 time.
Union completes a remarkable season that saw several cross country and track and field records be set, and will head into the offseason looking to continue to reach new heights in 2024-25.
