Box Score 2 SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Union College women's tennis team competed against tough competition this weekend at the Battle of the Northway, facing off against Skidmore College, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Division I Siena College on Saturday and Sunday at Skidmore's McCaffery-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center.
In singles play, Union earned one victory against Siena and one against Rensselaer.
Sophomore
Luisa Arizpe-Sierra was leading Siena's Zaara Omar by a 5-2 score before Omar retired due to injury. First-years
Samantha Jacobs and
Calista Finkelstein also came tiebreakers short of earning victories as well against the Saints, with Jacobs falling 8-7 (8-6) to Andrea Vargas and Finkelstein coming up just short to Camilla Bonini, 8-7 (7-4).
Jacobs earned the team's lone win against the Engineers, defeating Anushka Jaiswal by an 8-6 margin. Arizpe-Sierra came a tiebreaker way from another Union victory, falling 8-7 (7-4) to Victoria Sarabosing.
The Garnet Chargers had trouble finding success on the doubles court over the weekend, dropping all four matches to both Skidmore and RPI and all three to Siena.
Union will finish off the fall season next weekend, competing at the ITA Northeast Regional Championships and the New Paltz Invitational beginning on Saturday.
