NEW ORLEANS, La. – For the second straight indoor season and third straight season overall, sophomore
Ashley Sheldon of the Union College women's indoor track & field team was named an All-Mideast Region selection from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the 2024-25 indoor season, the association announced on Tuesday.
To earn All-Region honors, individuals must finish in the top-five of the region in an event and relay teams must finish in the region's top-three. With her recognition, Sheldon becomes the first women's track & field athlete at Union to earn All-Region honors in multiple years and matches
Noemie Bechu '17 for the most All-Region honors overall with three.
After picking up All-Region honors in the high jump during both the indoor and outdoor seasons as a first-year, Sheldon again was recognized after posting the fifth-best high jump in the Mideast Region, a mark of 1.64 meters at the Liberty League Championships on February 28 that also placed her 36th in Division III. The sophomore also finished the season 19th regionally in the 60-meter hurdles this winter with a top time of 9.49 seconds at the Utica Fast Trax Invitational.
Sheldon was joined by several Union teammates in the top-20 of the region as well this year. First-year
Kyleigh Record finished the year 13th regionally and 71st nationally in the 800 meters with a top time of 2:17.73 at the conference championships, while senior
Gabby Baker posted the 14th-best time in the 400 meters with a career-best time of 59.92 seconds at the AARTFC Championships last week. Senior
Cat Dacey posted top-20 times in a pair of events for Union, sitting 14th in the mile after her program-record 5:04.99 run at the AARTFC Championships last weekend and also joining Record in the top-20 of the 800 meters with a time of 2:20.17 that ranked 19th.
In addition, the 4x400 relay finished seventh regionally after a 4:10.28 result at the Liberty League Championships and the distance medley relay ranked ninth in the region and 35th nationally with a program-record time of 12:18.34.
After a few weeks away from the track, the Garnet Chargers will begin the outdoor season on March 28-29 at William & Mary.
