ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Senior
Sam Ahern finished off a successful indoor season by representing the Union College men's indoor track & field team on day one of the 2025 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships, held at Nazareth University's Golisano Training Center on Friday afternoon.
Running in competition for the first time in two weeks after tweaking his hamstring at the Liberty League Championships, Ahern had to sit until the fifth and final heat of the 200-meter dash, which did not provide ideal conditions for running. The senior did not get off the blocks quickly and finished the 200 in a time of 23.54 seconds.
"Unfortunately, Sam just didn't have the confidence to fully uncork in his race today," said head coach
Laura Nardelli. "Despite that, we are really proud of the indoor season Sam had this year; just getting to the national championships is a real honor. The experience he gained here will help him as he looks to get back to nationals in the outdoor season."
Ahern, who was named All-Region in the 200 earlier this week, broke the school indoor 200 record for the third time in his career at the John Thomas Terrier Classic, when he blazed to a program-record time of 21.89 seconds on the banked track at Boston University.
After a few weeks off for finals and Spring Break, Union will start off the outdoor season on March 28-29 at the College of William & Mary.
