HARTFORD, Conn. – Senior
Cat Dacey broke her own program mark in the 800 meters to lead the Union College women's outdoor track & field team to an 11th-place finish at the Trinity Invitational, hosted by Trinity (Conn.) College at Jessee/Miller Field at Tansill Muldoon Stadium on Saturday.
Union finished the day with 35 points, good for an 11th-place finish out of 13 scoring teams at the event. In total, the Garnet Chargers amassed an impressive eight career-bests, 14 season-best results, three Liberty league qualifiers and two AARTFC Championship qualifiers.
Dacey highlighted the day for Union by shattering her own school record in the 800 meters, taking nearly 1.5 seconds off her previous standard with a time of 2:15.63. If Dacey hadn't been on the track the record still would have fallen thanks an excellent run by first-year
Kyleigh Record, who took second behind Dacey in a career-best 2:16.25.
Senior
Gabby Baker was the team's top finisher in the sprints on Saturday. She placed fourth in the 400-meter dash with a season-best time of 59.09 seconds, and also was the fastest Garnet Charger to run the 100-meter dash, finishing in 12.90 seconds.
Sophomore
Annabel Dobash earned a top-10 finish and a ticket to Liberty Leagues in the 1500 meters, clocking in at 4:53.89 to take six seconds off her career best and place ninth overall.
Sophomore
Ashley Sheldon picked up a pair of top-10 results on the day. She qualified for the AARTFC Championships in the 100-meter hurdles with a 10th-place time of 15.60 seconds, and also cleared 1.56 meters to place fourth in the high jump. She was joined in the high jump by junior
Grace Ardito, who took seventh by clearing 1.51 meters.
First-year
Lauryn Johnson matched Sheldon's top field finish of the day in the javelin throw, posting a season-best mark of 31.99 meters to nab fourth out of 31 competitors.
Union will head back to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Friday for its final tuneup before the conference championships, taking part in the RPI Capital District Classic beginning at 2 p.m. in Troy.
