GENEVA, N.Y. – The Union College women's tennis team reached the finals of both the "B" Singles main and consolation brackets to highlight play on Sunday's second and final day at the Mary Hosking Invitational, hosted by William Smith College at the HWS Tennis Courts.
Senior
Sydney Alphabet entered Sunday as Union's only singles competitor remaining in main-draw action after two wins in the "C" Singles bracket on Saturday. She continued her run on Sunday with an 8-5 victory over William Smith's Kaitlyn Hardy to reach the finals, but she came up one break short of a title in an 8-6 loss to RPI's Neha Saraswatula.
After dropping her first match yesterday, first-year
Megan McCusker charged through the "B" Singles consolation bracket to win a title. She bested senior teammate
Claire Langille by an 8-6 score in an all-Union semifinal, and then cruised past William Smith's Mia Jacobs by an 8-2 score in the final.
Sophomore
Calista Finkelstein and first-year
Jenny Park also competed in the "B" Doubles semifinal on Sunday, dropping a 6-1 decision to Saraswatula and Gauri Muliyil of RPI.
Union will kick off dual match play on Tuesday with the team's Liberty League opener at Bard College beginning at 6 p.m.
