SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Union College men's indoor track and field team sent a limited squad to Springfield College's Massasoit Classic on Saturday at the Springfield College Fieldhouse, but still managed to produce eight season-bests at the non-scoring meet.
Senior
Jason Bois had the team's top finish of the day in the 60-meter hurdles. The senior reached the final by cruising to seventh place with a time of 8.91 seconds, then turned on the jets in the final with a mark of 8.75 seconds to place third overall.
Junior
Nate Okwaning reached the finals of the 60-meter dash by finishing in 7.29 seconds, then moved up two spots in the final thanks to a time of 7.22 seconds. Classmate
Aaron Binion missed out on the finals by two-hundredths of a second, ending up 10th in 7.32 seconds. Okwaning also led the Garnet Chargers in the 200-meter dash, placing 10th in 23.62 seconds.
Sophomore
Aidan Bradley picked up a top-five finish in the 400-meter dash, finishing in a season-best time of 53.43 seconds. Junior
Will Bonnette finished the 800 meters in 2:05.82 to earn a sixth-place finish. First-years
Sacha Silvia and
Will Barry also earned top-five finishes in limited fields, as Silvia placed second in the seven-person 600 meters with a time of 1:31.10 and Barry took fifth out of eight runners with a 9:58.58 finish of the 3,000 meters.
Senior
Nick Entner earned a top-10 finish in the shot put, finishing with a top mark of 12.51 meters to place eighth out of 39 competitors, while first-year
Carmen Discepola also tossed the shot a season-best 11.83 meters to finish 16th. Entner also finished eighth in the weight throw with a season-best mark of 13.70 meters,
Qualifying student-athletes will return to the track next Saturday at the John Thomas Terrier Classic, while the whole team will be back in action on February 7 at the Utica Blue and Orange Invitatiuonal.
