BOSTON, Mass. – Qualifying members of the Union College men's indoor track & field team went up against top Division I, II and III competition on Saturday at the non-scoring John Thomas Terrier Classic, hosted by Boston University at the BU Track and Tennis Center.
Senior
Jason Bois led off the day for Union by taking part in the invitational portion of the 60-meter hurdles. The senior finished his sprint in a season-best 8.72 seconds to place 15th out of 23 runners and third among six Division III competitors.
Sophomore
Liam Fitzgibbon posted the best time of his career in the 800 meters, qualifying for the AARTFC Championships with a time of 1:56.67 that earned him a 64th-place finish out of 135 runners and in the top-quarter of 44 D-III runners.
Junior
Nate Okwaning represented Union in the sprints on Saturday, competing in both the 60- and 200-meter dashes. In his first event of the day, he ran the 60 in a season-best 7.16 seconds to place 14th out of 49 sprinters. He followed up by setting a new personal best in the 200, crossing the line in 22.80 seconds to place 78th out of 134 runners.
Union had five runners in the mile, with junior
Bretton Garrick leading the squad with a career-best 4:28.03 mile that beat his previous best by over three seconds and came three-hundredths of a second away from qualifying for the Liberty League Championships. Classmate
Michael Fitzmaurice was next to cross the line for Union, finishing in 4:32.70, followed by first-year
Alex Colangelo in 4:36.15. First-years
Cole Lewek (4:45.52) and
Greg Keane (4:47.34) rounded out the Union quintet.
The Garnet Chargers will be back in action on Saturday, February 7 at the Utica Blue and Orange Invitational.
