Korpi Hauls in Third Goalie of the Week Award

DANBURY, Conn. – Union College men's hockey sophomore Cameron Korpi was named the ECAC Hockey MAC Goaltending Goalie of the Week after making 65 saves against Harvard University and #14/12 Dartmouth College, the league announced Monday.

Korpi hauled in his third weekly award from the conference after making his most saves in a two-game stretch this season. He made a season-best 34 stops against the Crimson on Friday in a 4-1 win before stopping 31 more through 65 minutes in a 3-3 tie with Dartmouth, allowing four goals overall.

His 1.92 goals-against average and .942 save percentage on the weekend backstopped the Garnet Chargers as they completed an unbeaten, four-game homestand.

The 6-4 netminder made five saves in total while Union was reduced on the ice against Harvard and Dartmouth, helping Union's penalty kill turn in its second and third straight games without allowing a power-play goal. After going five-for-five on the kill overall, Union improved its PK percentage to .901 and reclaimed the lead atop the nation's penalty-kill leaderboard.

The Big Green entered the game Saturday averaging 1.15 goals per game in the final 20 minutes of regulation on the season. Korpi made 11 saves to shut out Dartmouth in the third period, setting up the Garnet Chargers for a two-goal comeback. Union forced overtime, and Korpi made one final save in the extra five minutes, halting Dartmouth's winning streak over Union at eight games.

With Korpi's three weekly goalie of the week awards and one more from first-year Brayden Gillespie, Union's goalies have now won the most goaltending accolades from ECAC Hockey this season. Yale University and Princeton University have both produced three goaltender of the week awards.

The Garnet Chargers (19-10-3, 9-9-2 ECAC Hockey) hit the road for their final regular-season series, taking on Yale at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27 and Brown University at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28.
