SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Union College men's track and field team kicked off the 2021-22 indoor season at the non-scoring Springfield Season Opener on Saturday at Springfield College. The Dutchmen set a pair of new school records and delivered several excellent performances at their first indoor meet in 637 days.
First-year
Sam Ahern had an excellent collegiate debut for Union, becoming the first Union runner ever to crack seven seconds in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.98 seconds to place him second in the finals after a time of 7.09 in the prelims. First-year
Kyle Collins also set a new school record in the 600 meters as well with a time of 1:32.84 for the Dutchmen, placing ninth overall. In the mile, first-year
Alan Daniel matched Ahern's second-place finish by running a 4:40.84 mile. Fox added a pair of top-six finishes as well, taking fourth in the 200-meter dash by crossing the line in 23.46 seconds and also placing sixth in the 60-meter dash finals with a time of 7.19 seconds.

Ben Neff placed in the top-five in a pair of races, taking fourth in the 1,000 meters (2:49.65) and fifth in the mile (4:44.07). First-year
Liam Beck raced to a fourth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles after posting a time of 9.36 seconds in the prelims, followed by classmate
Chris Brandreth in fifth place (9.86 seconds).
The Distance Medley Relay finished first as well, as the quartet of Daniel, sophomore
Ben Trantanella, and first-years
Jon Forbes and
Sam Bordeau combined to finish in 11:46.14.
In the field events, first-year
William Raeter placed fourth with a distance of 11.95 meters in shot put and also finished ninth in the weight throw with a top toss of 9.60 meters.
The Dutchmen travel to Utica, N.Y. next Saturday, December 11, for the Utica Holiday Classic.
