UTICA, N.Y. - The Union College men's track and field team kicked off the 2022 portion of the indoor season on Saturday afternoon, competing against Division I, II and III competition at the Utica Winter Opener. The Dutchmen finished 12th out of 16 teams with 17 points.
Senior
Andrew Fox was Union's top scorer on the day, scoring 11 points in two sprints. The senior took second out of 35 runners in the 400-meter dash, crossing the line in a time of 51.34 that qualified him for the Liberty League Championships. Fox reahed the 60-meter dash finals by clocking a 7.32 before finishing in 7.33 in the finals, finishing seventh. Sophomore
Ryan Hilliard also posted a top-10 finish in the 400, placing 10th in 53.43.
First-year
Kyle Collins just missed scoring in the 500 meters, finishing ninth in 1:14.43. Sophomore
Ben Trantanella also earned a ninth-place finish with a time of 2:48.25 in the 1000m.
The first-year pairing of
Alan Daniel and
Ben Neff raced in the 800 meters, finishing 10th and 12th, respectively. Daniel ran a 2:07.38 and Neff a 2:07.66.
The team of sophomore
Ben Tichner, junior
Aiden Rowley, Collins and Fox also earned a top-five finish finish in the 4x400 relay, clocking a time of 3:40.19 to place fifth.
In the field events, sophomore
William Raeter placed seventh in the shot put with a top distance of 11.89 meters. Raeter also competed in the weight throw, with a top distance of
8.12 meters.
The Dutchmen will compete next Saturday at the Middlebury Snowflake Open beginning at 11 a.m.
