NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Union College men's track and field team took part in the two-day Silfen Invitational on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon from Silfen Field and Track. Going up against excellent competition, the Dutchmen set numerous personal bests.
The 4x400m relay team finished in seventh place with a time of 3:38.73. This team was composed of senior
Andrew Fox, sophomore
Ryan Hilliard, and first-years
Ben Neff and
Sam Ahern.
Fox also added a pair of top-10 finishes individually. The senior finished in ninth place in the 200m with a time of 22.40, while also crossing the finish line in the 400m with a blazing 50.66 to place 10th.
First-year
Ryan Russell and sophomore
Charlie Alekson qualified for for the All Atlantic Region Track and Field Championships in the 10,000m. Russell ran a 32:66.55 for 17th place and Alekson crossed the line with a 32:38.62 to finish in 20th place.
Neff broke two minutes in the 800m dash and qualified for the Liberty League Championships with his 1:59.69. This time was a new personal record for Neff by four seconds. Classmate
Connor Gothorpe also set a personal best in the 3000m steeplechase, with a 10:47.30 today.
Sophomore
Ben Trantanella added to the list of personal bests in the 1500m run, with a 4:09.88, surpassing his previous best of 4:11.50.
In field events, Hilliard jumped 12.00m in triple jump to place 14th.
The Dutchmen will compete again next weekend, April 23, when they travel to Middlebury, Vt. for the Middlebury Invitational. The meet is set to begin at 11 a.m.
