Ahern Wins 200 at Capital District Classic

TROY, N.Y.
– The Union College men's track and field traveled to the Capital District Classic on Saturday afternoon. The Dutchwomen competed against a wide variety of division including a few Liberty League opponents as well. 

First-year Sam Ahern won the men's 200m dash, with a quick time of 22.27 seconds. This time qualified him for the Liberty League Championship and also the All-Atlantic Regional Track and Field Championships. Ahern also placed fourth in the men's 100m dash as well, with a 11.10. This was a life time best for Ahern and he qualified for the Liberty league Championships.

Senior Andrew Fox placed second in the 200m dash. He clocked a 22.46 and also competed in the 100m dash as well. He crossed the line in sixth place with a 11.26, which a new personal best for Fox that he set back in 2019.

First-year Ben Neff set a new life time best in his third-place finish in the 800m run. Neff crossed the line at 1:58.78. His pervious best was a 1:59.69 early this season.

Sophomore Ryan Hilliard jumped 12.26m in men's triple jump. This distance placed him in third place overall. Hilliard also competed in the men's 100m and 200m dashes. Hilliard qualified for the Liberty League Championships with a time of 11.37 in the 100m. In the 200m dash he ran a 23.34, which was a new personal best for him.

First-year Liam Beck placed fourth in the 110 hurdles, with a time of 17.77. Beck also competed in the 400m hurdles and placed fifth with a 1:06.88. Teammate Chris Brandreth finished in fourth place in the 400m hurdles with a 1:05.23.

First-year Connor Gothorpe finished in seventh place in the men's 3000m steeplechase. He ran a 10:40.25 which was a new personal best for him in the race.

In field events, first-year Noah Greenberg finished in fourth pace in the men's javelin with a distance of 47.00m. This was a new personal best as well. Greenberg also placed fourth in the shot out as well, with the distance of 12.77m. This distance was a new best by almost two meters.

Sophomore Eli Coleman jumped a new personal best, with a distance of 6.65m. He places fifth in men's long jump with that new best distance.

The men's 4 by 400m relay team finished in fourth place with a time of 3:37.24.

Next up for the Dutchmen will travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. for the Liberty league Championships. Day one of the meet begins in Friday, May 6 at 12 p.m.
