NEW LONDON, C.T. – The Union College men's track and field team traveled to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy for the Coast Guard Invitational on Saturday afternoon. With three conference championship qualifying performances, the Dutchmen scored 22 points and finished in 10th place on the day.
Senior
Andrew Fox was the top finisher for the men, finishing in fourth place in the 400m dash with a time of 50.67 seconds. The mark is a new season best for Fox and qualifies him for the Liberty League Outdoor Championships.
Sophomore
Charlie Alekson also had a great day on the track with a top-five finish, running a 4:10.06 in the 1500m. This time set a new career best for the sophomore, beating his old record (4:26.56) by 16 seconds. Junior
Aiden Rowley also chipped in a seventh-place finish after clocking a 2:01.78 800m time.
In field events, sophomore
Eli Coleman placed sixth in the long jump, leaping 6.22m to set a new career best, easily surpassing his previous top jump of 5.92m. Coleman also qualified for the Liberty League Outdoor Championships with his leap.
The men's 4x400 relay team placed sixth, running a 3:32.69. The team was comprised of Fox, Rowley, sophomore
Ben Trantanella, and first-year
Sam Ahern.
Sophomore
Noah Greenberg finished in seventh place in javelin, tossing a 46.57m throw on his third attempt to qualify for Liberty Leagues with his throw today. Greenburg also placed 14th in the shot put with a distance of 10.49m.
Next up for the Dutchmen is the Silfen Invitational on Saturday, April 16. The meet is scheduled for an 8 a.m. start.
