POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The sprinting pair of Senior
Andrew Fox and first-year
Sam Ahern each placed in their two individual events and totaled 28 points for the Dutchmen on the final day of the Liberty League Championships. The Dutchmen finished in seventh and tallied 35 points on Saturday from Vassar College and Prentiss Sports Complex.
Senior
Andrew Fox finished in second place in the men's 400m dash. Fox ran a career best 49.82 400m dash. This time qualifies Fox for the All Atlantic Regional Track and Field Championship. Fox qualified for the final with his 50.64 that he ran on Friday afternoon, giving him the second seed for todays race. Fox ran a 49.82 in today's final for second place and eight points for the Dutchmen.
Fox also competed in the men's 200m dash and finished in fifth place. Fox ran a 22.70 and gained four points for the Dutchmen.
First-year
Sam Ahern was edged out in the men's 100m dash for a second-place finish. Ahern crossed the finish line with a 10.91 second time. Ahern who was already in the AARTFC has improved his seed time for the meet. This time was also a season best for Ahern, whose previous best was a 11.08.
Ahern followed up his second place 100m dash with another second-place finish, this one coming in the 200m dash. Ahern ran a blazing 22.31 time and qualified for the AARTFC. This position added another eight points to the Union men's total.
The men's 4 x 100m relay team of Ahern, Fox, sophomores
Ryan Hilliard, and
Ben Tichner earned the Dutchmen five points on the day, with their fourth-place finish in the relay. The group finished with a time of 43.57. This time was a season best for the relay team.
The other relay team, ran a 3:30.35 in the 4 x 400m. The team of Ahern, Fox, Hilliard, and junior
Aiden Rowley finished in seventh place.
First-year
Ryan Russell qualified for the AARTFC in the men's 5000m with his time of a 15:23.12. This time from Russell was a new personal best by 16 seconds. His previous best was a 15:39.51.
This meet calls an end to the season for the majority of the Dutchmen. The ones that qualified for the AARTFC will have on more meet on Wednesday, May 18 and Thursday, May 19.
