MEDFORD, Mass. - The Union College women's 4x400 meter relay unit of seniors
Glory Moncion Allen,
Kasey McGerald,
Allison Malatesta and
Caroline Stanton smashed the program's record by over three seconds at the Tufts Qualifying Meet in Massachusetts Saturday afternoon.
Â
The relay team flew to a 4:01.92 time in the event, crushing the previous 4:05.15 record that had stood for almost nine years. The finish almost two seconds ahead of fourth-place Brandeis picked up the program's lone podium finish at the national qualifier with a third place spot as well.
Â
Junior
Cat Dacey almost turned in another program record herself, coming five-hundredths of a second short of setting a new Union mile record with her new personal-best 5:07.68 time, good for seventh in the event.
Â
A successful day at the meet for both the men's and women's programs completes a triumphant indoor season for the team, while first-year
Ashley Sheldon awaits a potential individual selection to next week's national indoor track & field championships. The outdoor season is set to begin for the squad at the Vassar Invitational April 5th.
