Men's Track Starts Outdoor Season at William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Union College men's outdoor track & field team kicked off the 2025 outdoor season on Saturday afternoon at the Dan Stimson Memorial Meet, hosted by the College of William & Mary at Zable Stadium.

In the first outdoor meet of the year, Union registered eight Liberty League Championship qualifiers, three AARTFC Outdoor Championship qualifiers and several personal bests in a promising start to the outdoor season.

Senior Sam Ahern took second place in the 100-meter dash and first in the 200-meter dash to lead the Garnet Chargers. He ran the best 100 of his career on Saturday with a finish of 10.8 seconds, one-tenth of a second off the program standard. He also ran the 200 in 21.70 seconds, seven-hundredths off of his own program record. He qualified for both the Conference and AARTFC Championships to start the year.

He was not the team's only qualifier in the sprints on Saturday. Sophomore Nate Okwaning finished the 100 in 10.99 seconds to make both the conference and regional meets, and he also ran a career best 22.88 seconds in the 200 to reach Liberty Leagues in that event. Classmate Aaron Binion set new career bests in both the 100 and 200 as well with conference qualifying times, finishing the 100 in 11.31 seconds and the 200 in 22.80 seconds, while first-year Aidan Bradley's finish of 22.19 seconds in the 200 also earned him a spot at Liberty Leagues.

In addition, Bradley led Union in the 400-meter dash with a first-place finish of 51.51 seconds, while junior Will Plante paced four Union runners in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:18.04.

In the field events, first-year Aaron Al-Marayati recorded a personal best in the javelin throw, posting a top distance of 43.30 meters to qualify for the conference championships.

Union will return north for the remainder of its outdoor season, beginning next Saturday at the Coast Guard Invitational.
