ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Union College men's indoor track & field team earned eight points on day one of the Liberty League Indoor Track & Field Championships to sit in sixth place out of eight teams at the midway point of the weekend.
Thanks to six season-best performances, Union sits 19 points back of Ithaca College in fifth place and one point ahead of Vassar College in seventh. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute scored 91 points to hold the lead after day one.
Seniors
Mason Lang and
Nick Entner started the day by earning points for Union in the shot put, as both entries earned spots in the finals. Lang finished the first round sixth with a top toss of 13.68 meters and remained there through the final three throws, while Entner earned the last spot on the podium with a career-best mark of 13.19 meters and matched that distance again to place eighth. Tony Cocchiaro also competed in the event and posted a season-best toss of 12.40 meters to finish 15th.
Union also earned points in the final event of the day, as the distance medley relay team of juniors

Bretton Garrick and sophomore
Liam Fitzgibbon finished in 10:27.22, earning the team four points and also qualifying the quartet for the AARTFC Indoor Championships.
Junior
Nate Okwaning booked his spot in the finals of the 60-meter dash tomorrow, finishing his sprint in a season-best 7.06 seconds to nab the eighth and final spot. Classmate
Aaron Binion finished in 7.23 seconds to place 17th overall out of 26 runners.
Senior
Jason Bois came less than a tenth of a second from reaching the finals in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing in 8.76 seconds to place ninth.
Sophomore
Aidan Bradley and senior
Aidan Savitt both set new season-bests in the 400-meter dash on Friday, with Bradley placing 21st in 52.30 seconds and Savitt finishing one spot back in 22nd after a time of 52.57 seconds.
Junior
Ben Pistiner ran the 5,000 meters for Union on the day, placing 16th with a time of 16:34.70.
The Garnet Chargers will be back on the track tomorrow beginning at 11 a.m. for the second and final day of the Liberty League Championships.
