TROY, N.Y. – The Union College men's outdoor track & field team had its final tuneup before the conference championships on Friday, as the Garnet Chargers placed sixth out of 13 teams at the RPI Capital District Classic, hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at Ned Harkness Field and Track.
Union finished the day with 24 points to finish fourth among seven Division III teams and sixth overall at the meet, which featured Division I, III and NJCAA programs. The Garnet Chargers ended the day with 12 season-bests and two personal-best results.
In the throwing events, seniors
Mason Lang and
Nick Entner went two-three in the javelin throw for a combined 14 points, Union's highest-scoring event of the afternoon. Lang finished with a season-best 48.98 meters to place second, followed by Entner in third at 48.51 meters. Lang also paced Union in the hammer throw (43.80 meters) and the shot put (a season-best 13.86 meters) to place 12th and fourth, respectively, while Entner posted the best hammer throw of his career as well with a top mark of 39.60 meters to earn a spot in the top-20.
Senior
Jason Bois earned four points in the 110-meter hurdles with a finish of 15.50 seconds, good for fifth place out of 17 runners, while classmate
Aaron Binion finished the 200-meter dash in 23.10 seconds to place seventh overall.
The Garnet Chargers picked up three points with a sixth-place finish in the 4x100 relay, with Bois, Binion, junior
Kye Norcross and sophomore
Aidan Bradley finishing in a combined 44.29 seconds.
Senior
Drew Hill earned one point by taking eighth place in the 400-meter dash with a season-best time of 51.87 seconds, just ahead of senior
Aidan Savitt (52.12 seconds) in ninth place.
In the unseeded section of the 1,500 meters, junior
Bretton Garrick finished in a personal-best 4:03.92 to place fifth, while three others – first-year
Will Barry (4:20.69), sophomore
Tommy Lapham (4:24.56) and senior
Will Plante (4:27.67) – all set new season-bests in the event as well.
Union will head to St. Lawrence University for the Liberty League Championships next Friday and Saturday.
