Men's Track & Field Tunes Up for the Postseason at Utica

UTICA, N.Y. – The Union College men's indoor track and field team recorded 14 season-best performances, 12 career-best results and a trio of conference-qualifying times in the team's final regular-season tune up at the non-scoring Utica Fast Trax Invitational, held on Saturday afternoon at the Hutton Sports and Recreation Center.

Despite not sending the entire team to Utica, the Garnet Chargers still posted several solid performances in the final meet before next weekend's Liberty League Championships.

First-year Aidan Bradley earned a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 51.73 seconds. A trio of teammates posted the best times of their careers in the event as well, as junior Aidan Savitt (53.39) took 13th, first-year Ziayan Omer (53.41) placed 15th and first-year Ishaan Kumar (57.47) nabbed 25th place.

Bradley also took 12th in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line in a season-best 23.11 seconds, while sophomore Kye Norcross (24.32) posted the best time of his career in the event as well.

Sophomore Bretton Garrick matched Bradley with a third-place finish in the 800 meters, posting the best time of his career by completing the distance in 2:01.41. Senior Kyle Collins joined Garrick in the top-seven, finishing in a career-best 2:04.03.

Junior Will Plante placed fifth in the mile, traversing the track in a career-best 4:27.82 to qualify for the Liberty League Championships.

Junior Jason Bois ran well in the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles, posting a time of 8.49 seconds that was second-best among 24 runners and three-hundredths of a second off his program record, but the junior did not run in the finals.

In the field events, junior Tony Cocchiaro recorded career-best marks in multiple events, taking fifth in the shot put with a distance of 13.04 meters and also adding a 12.21-meter toss in the weight throw. First-year Dylan Boyle and sophomore Aramis Suarez both earned Liberty League qualifying distances in the weight throw, with Boyle posting a top mark of 12.57 meters and Suarez finishing at 12.21 meters.

The Garnet Chargers will return to action on Friday for day one of the Liberty League Indoor Championships beginning at 11 a.m. in Ithaca.
