ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Union College men's outdoor track & field team scored four points on day one and set itself up for many more points on day two at the midway point of the 2025 Liberty League Outdoor Track & Field Championships, held on Saturday afternoon at the Rochester Institute of Technology Track & Field Complex.
Union sits in sixth place with four points after day one, with only six of the 21 events finishing on the first day. The Garnet Chargers recorded seven season-bests and four career-bests on the first day of competition.
Union kicked off the weekend by earning all four of its points in the javelin throw. Junior
Nick Entner took sixth place with a top distance of 53.62 meters on his second throw of the day, while classmate
Mason Lang threw the javelin a season-best 51.25 meters on his first throw of the finals to finish in eighth place out of 18 competitors. First-year
Aaron Al-Marayati also posted his best throw of the year on Friday, finishing 14th with a mark of 43.90 meters.
Both senior
Sam Ahern and sophomore
Nate Okwaning will race in the finals of the 100-meter dash tomorrow after placing fourth and fifth in Friday's prelims. Ahern won his heat and came two-hundredths of a second off his career-best time by finishing in 10.82 seconds, followed closely by Okwaning with a season-best 10.85 seconds. Sophomore
Aaron Binion also posted the best time of his career in the event, finishing 14th out of 31 runners in 11.08 seconds.
Ahern also earned a spot in the finals of the 200-meter dash with a seventh-place finish, crossing the line in 21.71 seconds. Binion ran the best 200 time of his career on the afternoon, finishing in 22.36 seconds to place 19th.
Junior
Jason Bois took second in the prelims of the 110-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 15.15 seconds to book a spot in tomorrow's final.
Union had four entries in the prelims of the 400-meter dash, with first-year
Aidan Bradley the fastest to cross the finish line in 50.76 seconds to place 14th. Junior
Aidan Savitt followed close behind in 17th, running a career-best 51.54 seconds.
The largest Union contingent of the day was in the 800 meters, which saw senior
Ben Neff lead five Garnet Chargers by finishing 15th in 1:57.41. First-year
Liam Fitzgibbon came in 16th place with a time of 1:57.64, followed closely by sophomore
Michael Fitzmaurice with a career-best 1:58.15 to finish 18th, as well as junior
Will Plante (2:00.39) and first-year
Bretton Garrick (2:02.30).
Lang was Union's top finisher in the hammer throw, posting a top mark of 39.09 meters to place 14th overall, followed by classmate
Tony Cocchiaro in 18th place (37.16 meters).
First-year
Liam Dougherty finished off the day by running the grueling 10,000 meters in 35:30.15.
Union will return to the track tomorrow for day two of the conference championships beginning at 10:30 a.m.
