LATHAM, N.Y. - The Union College men's cross country team had a strong showing against Division I and II competition on Saturday morning, racing to a fourth place finish at the Siena Invitational.
As the only Division III team in the field, Union took fourth out of seven teams at the event, finishing ahead of Division I Fairfield University and Division II Le Moyne College and the College of Saint Rose with a total of 123 points.
First year
Ryan Russell had a solid showing in his collegiate debut, taking 34th place with a time of 27:44.9. Sophomore
Ben Trantanella finished close behind in 36th with a time of 27:50.3, while first-year
Ben Neff finished the 8K course in 28:01.8 to earn a spot in the top-40 as well. Senior
Phil Facey and sophomore
Mark D'Alessandro rounded out Union's top-five scorers, with D'Alessandro taking 51st in 28:46.4 and Facey finishing in 28:48.0 to place 53rd.
First-years
Thomas Breimer and
Connor Gothorpe and junior
Aiden Rowley also broke the 30-minute mark as well for Union on the day, with Breimer taing 64th in 29:22.9, followed closely by Rowley (29:29.4) and Gothorpe (29:38.3).
After a week off from competition, the Dutchmen will get back on the trails on September 25, when they head up to Saratoga Springs for the Saratoga Invitational.
