TROY, N.Y. - Junior
Thomas Breimer's victory in the 3000-meter steeplechase and seven additional podium finishes for the Union College men's track and field team posted 100 points at the RPI Under the Lights Invitational Friday, as the Garnet Chargers took second amongst 14 teams.
Breimer kicked off his hometown meet with Union's lone victory of the day. The Rensselaer native crossed the finish line in 10:55.06, easily picking up the win and 10 points in his first career 3000-meter steeplechase race for Union in a race he led all the way.
Union soon put together their strongest individual event of the day, the 400. Senior
Ryan Hilliard finished within one-tenth of a second of another Union win and three-hundredths of a second of a personal best, claiming second in 51.37 seconds to tally eight points. Junior
Sam Ahern scored sixth in 52.41 to add three points, with sophomore
Aidan Savitt two spots behind in eighth to pick up an additional point for Union in 53.40. Classmate
Drew Hill rounded out the top 10 in 54.76 seconds.
Union's relay teams added impressive performances of their own, each finishing in second. The 4x100 unit consisting of first-year

Aaron Binion, and Ahern comfortably scored second and eight points in 43.50 seconds, before the 4x400 team of Hilliard, first-year
Kye Norcross, Binion, and Savitt also claimed silver and eight more in the Union score column in 3:41.89. Senior
Ben Trantanella and first-year
Jackson Klehr teamed up with seniors Alayna Gibson and Allison Malatesta from the women's side to finish in 5th in the mixed 4x400, while juniors
Kyle Collins and
Nick DeBaise formed with junior Caroline Kelly and sophomore Grace Ardito to round out the top-10 in the event.
Hilliard and Binion took to the jumps later in the day. Hilliard scored three points with his sixth-place finish in the triple jump, leading 12.59 meters, while Binion set a new personal best in the long jump, with his best jump coming in at 5.94 meters, good for 12th.
Ahern added another five points with his fourth-place finish in the 200, crossing the line in 22.08 seconds, within a tenth of a second of his personal best.
Bois would add a second-place finish of his own in the 110-meter hurdles, trimming over three-tenths of a second off his preliminary time to add another eight points with his 15.70-second clocking. Junior
Liam Beck picked up another four points for Union in the event with his 17.46 second time.
Okwaning tallied another three points in the 100-meter dash with his 11.40-second time.
In the 1500, Union assembled a trio of strong performances. Trantanella finished fourth in the "A" run to pick up six points for Union with a 4:05.16 time. In the "B" run, sophomore
Will Plante started and finished strong, running an impressive 1:04.11 split in the final 400, to pick up the win by almost three seconds in 4:17.53. First-Year
Will Bonnette added a top-five finish of his own, using a 1:07.80 split in his final dash to claim fourth in 4:23.08.
The Garnet Chargers added similar performances in the 5000-meter runs. In the "A" run to close out the individual track event side of the meet, junior
Ben Neff claimed a podium spot with his third-place finish, finishing in a personal-best 15:20.49 and claiming eight points, while senior
Mark D'Alessandro rounded out the top 10 in 15:46.45, scoring three points. In the "B" run to begin the day, first-year
Ben Pistiner finished in eighth in 16:57.14.
Junior
Chris Brandreth added two points with his ninth-place showing in the 400-meter hurdles, timing 1:04.34. First-Year
Bretton Garrick timed a personal best in the 800 with a 2:05.27 time, good for 13th, while Collins and DeBaise finished right behind to round out the top 15.
On the field side, sophomore
Mason Lang added eight points for Union with a 42.36-meter throw in the javelin, good for second, and six points with a 13.00-meter throw in the shot put, good for fourth. Sophomore
Nick Entner rounded out the podium in the javelin with his third-place finish with his 42.08-meter toss, coming one-hundredth of a meter shy of tying his personal-best set at the Liberty League Championships last year. Classmate
James Toleos finished the top-10 in the event with his 34.78-meter throw.
In the hammer throw, Lang rounded out the top-10 with a 36.00-meter toss, while classmate
Adam Hecker crushed his previous best with a 33.16-meter throw, good for 12th.
Union will take part in the Trinity (Conn.) Invitational in Hartford next Saturday before returning to Rensselaer to perform in the RPI Capital District Classic on the 27th.
